As White House cybersecurity czar, Schmidt will be charged with setting computer security policy and
providing budget guidance across the government. Among his top
challenges will be tapping the cyberdefense capabilities at the
National Security Agency while ensuring adequate privacy protections
for activities in the civilian sector, the Wall Street Journal reports. He will report to President Barack Obama through the chief of counterterrorism on the National Security Council, John Brennan, who headed the search committee, according to the Atlantic's Politics blog.
